End to the Green Homes Grant

An end to the £1.5bn program, which offered households grants of up to £10, 000, was the centre piece of Boris Johnson’s “build back greener”. With many having missed the application deadline; the government leaves 20m households on moderate incomes looking for different avenues in order to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. However, not all hope is lost. With the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) still in place, we are still able to have the financial incentive we need to make the necessary improvements to our Cornish homes.

What is the RHI scheme

Established in April 2014, The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the world’s first long-term financial support scheme for renewable heat. It is a government financial incentive to encourage property owners to install renewable energy technologies for heating purposes. By upgrading heating systems to the use of renewable energy, we are able to significantly reduce carbon emissions and save money.

Is RHI still available?

The big question everyone is thinking, and the answer is yes. The RHI scheme has been extended. Applications will continue to remain open for domestic RHI until the 31st of March 2022.

Am I Eligible?

In order to be eligible to receive the RHI payments, domestic homes need to be compliant with the scheme’s conditions.

Renewable Energy Heating Systems that qualify under RHI are:

  • Ground Source Heat Pumps
  • Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Solar Thermal
  • Biomass

Bumblebee Energy. is a fully accredited and is a registered RHI installer. Through the installation of the advanced renewable energy heating systems Bumblebee Energy has to offer, qualifying for RHI payments will not be of concern.

How does Payment work?

Homeowners, private landlords, social landlords and self-builders who install these technologies and abide to the rules, receive quarterly payments from the government for seven years. The payments are based on the amount of renewable heat made by the household, and present tariff rates. The scheme has already had thousands of people successfully join and received payments.

 Conclusion

Although different to the green homes grant, RHI is still something many should consider. By installing the relevant renewable technologies, not only does it reduce carbon emissions, but can also save you up to £600 per year on energy bills. On top of that, qualifying for domestic RHI means that you will receive tax free payments from the government over a period of seven years. Overall, after seven years of receiving RHI payments, plus savings on your heating bills, you should see yourself making back a large portion – if not all – of the initial investment. In conclusion, saving you money in the long run whilst preparing your Cornish home for the future.
