World Environment Day is a day dedicated to supporting worldwide awareness and action needed to protect our planets environment. Reimagine, Recreate and Restore, are words that form part of the Ecosystem Restoration theme for this year’s World Environment Day, 5th of June 2021.
What is an Ecosystem?
An ecosystem is so much more than that of its dictionary definition. “A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.” There is a somewhat endless list of various ecosystems. All of which play a large part in the complete functioning of our planet.
Ecosystems are the base of all societies and support our economies. Without the presence of healthy, functioning ecosystems, we will not be able to survive. Not only do the make up the food chain. They also purify the air and water, regulate our climate, produce raw materials and resources for medicines and so much more.
By holding the title of the largest rainforest, and covering about 2.3 million square miles, the Amazon Rainforest tops the list as the world’s most significant ecosystem.
Apart from providing a home to a number of diverse species. The Amazon Rainforest also controls a large percentage our planets oxygen and carbon cycles. It plays a leading part in making the Earth habitable.

Ways of Restoring Our Ecosystems
The restoration and caring of our ecosystems could not be more significant. Taking the necessary steps to look after and care for our ecosystems is essential in maintaining its functionality and wonderful beauty.
There are a number of ways we can restore our ecosystems. From preventing deforestation, increasing planting to even the eradication of invasive species. Additionally, another way in which we can look to protect and restore ecosystems is by reducing our carbon footprint.
By lowering the planets carbon emissions, we relieve ecosystems from negative pressures. Allowing them to heal on their own and prevent any further damage and decrease the environmental risks due to global warming.
How can I reduce my carbon Footprint?
With so much knowledge available to us on ways in which we could reduce our carbon footprint. There should be no excuses as to why we are not playing a part in taking action on the matter.
One of the practices we could consider when looking to lower our carbon emissions, is by traveling more economically. Whether it be by switching to a hybrid vehicle. Choosing your bicycle to get from A to B whenever possible or simply looking to travel with eco-friendly public transport instead.
Furthermore, studies have shown that there are a good few benefits when considering a plant-based diet. By reducing the amount of meat we consume we relieve our environment from the pressures it faces in order to maintain the extremely high demand. Moreover, by choosing locally grown and produced food products we also eliminate emissions which are generated due to transportation of goods.
Finally, by making our homes and businesses more energy efficient we are able to dramatically lower our carbon footprint. Upgrading to the use of renewable energy to power and/or heat our properties is most likely one of the most impactful options out there.
Bumblebee Energy offers an extensive range of advanced renewable energy technologies. Along with a wealth of knowledge within the renewable industry making us the perfect point of contact. Especially when looking to make the necessary changes to your property.
